A fascinating snapshot of what people in other countries feel about America. Early in 2002, Zogby International polled adults in five Arab/Muslim nations and five non-Arab nations to determine how they feel about specific items relative to American People and our culture. The study also discovered how they differentiate between those feelings and American policy in the Middle East.

"What Ethnic Americans Really Think"
The path-breaking "Culture Polls" study reveals findings of separate surveys of six major American ethnic groups: Hispanic Americans, Italian Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans, Arab Americans and Asian Pacific Americans.

Each survey analyzes family background and lifestyle characteristics for each ethnic group, along with an analysis on areas of commonality and differences on major policy issues.

Contrary to previous belief that most ethnic groups are socially liberal and fiscally conservative, this benchmark study shows instead that the groups tend to be in agreement by being socially conservative, but at the same time fiscally liberal.

At a time when the United States is building a broad coalition against terrorism, this poll shows that U.S. policy in the Middle East provides a significant stumbling block. However, there does not appear to be any built in resentment toward either the American culture or its people. Instead, evidence suggests that U.S. policies may indeed complicate a cultural and people-to-people affinity that clearly exists.

The poll was conducted in March and early April with face-to-face interviews of 500-700 randomly selected adults in five Arab nations - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, and in three non-Arab, Muslim nations - Pakistan, Iran and Indonesia. Finally, to establish a proper context for the final results, face-to-face interviews also were conducted of randomly selected adults in both France and Venezuela
